CHRIS FINLAY

Chris is an applied mathematician by training and a machine learning convert. During his PhD at McGill University, he studied numerical methods for nonlinear elliptic PDEs. Afterwards, he did a postdoc in ML focusing on density estimation, and adversarial robustness. Chris is an avid bird watcher; in his free time, he’s often found chasing rare warblers about town.

VIRA KOSHKINA

Vira holds a PhD in Mathematical Sciences from RMIT University where she researched stochastic ecological models of species distribution and extinction. She’s a big fan of speciality coffee, drawing, and skiing when she gets the chance.

ARSALAN ZAFAR

Arsalan holds a degree in spacecraft engineering from Southampton University and an MSc in computer science from Imperial College London. Arsalan enjoys walking, and has completed the 100-mile national South Downs Way. In his free time, Arsalan preaches veganism.

CHRI BESENBRUCH

Chri holds a degree in mathematics and economics from Goethe University, an MA in business innovation from St.Gallen, and an MSc in computing from Imperial College London. In his free time, Chris is either searching for life extension technologies or preparing for a zombie apocalypse.

CHRISTIAN ETMANN

Formerly a postdoc in applied mathematics at the University of Cambridge, Christian worked on deep learning with mathematical guarantees, generative models and efficient methods for large-scale medical imaging. Besides compressing data, he likes cooking and playing guitar.

JAN XU

Jan hails from Sweden and graduated from Imperial College with a degree in Civil Engineering. He finished his Masters at UC Berkeley, working with SLAM and machine learning. When Jan gets a minute to spare, he cooks, travels, practises music and can sometimes be found singing his heart out, to the accidental listener’s discontent.

ALEX CHERGANSKI

Alex holds an MEng in Computing with Machine Learning from Imperial College London. Before university, he was competing in Mathematical Olympiads (e.g. the IMO). When he is not training artificial neural networks, he is training his neurons how to juggle, windsurf or play musical instruments.

ALEXANDER LYTCHIER

Alex holds a physics degree from UCL and a computing masters from Imperial College London, after which he worked for two years at one of the largest telcos in Hong Kong. Alex enjoys playing the piano and can play all the classics from memory. If you leave Alex on your machine unattended, he will install Tmux.

LEWIS BRESLIN

Lewis holds a BSc in Criminology with a specialisation in Criminal Psychology. After giving up becoming a mad criminal, Lewis now has seven years of experience working in talent. Before Deep Render, he was helping grow tech-focused businesses across numerous sectors. In his free time, you can find him playing chess, watching sport and most recently climbing mountains.

MYLES DOYLE

Myles holds a BA in Mathematics and MSc in High-Performance Computing, both from Trinity College Dublin. He spent the next two years developing scalable software in a European supercomputing centre working with industry partners. In his spare time, he can be found falling off various objects, including climbing walls, skateboards, and even the floor.

SAIF HAQ

Saif graduated from the University of Sheffield with a first-class degree in Computer Science. He strongly dislikes Microsoft Windows, despite using it every day. In his free time, you will find him trying to automate himself out of the world, or playing Tarkov.

BILAL ABBASI

Bilal completed his PhD in applied mathematics at McGill University, where he focused on building numerical methods to solve nonlinear elliptic PDEs. He spent the following 3 years in the video game industry, indulging his affinity for geometry (and video games!). When he’s not in front of a computer, you can find him in the kitchen trying out new recipes, or running around town trying not to roll his ankle.

SEBASTJAN CIZEL

Sebastjan has completed a DPhil in Mathematics at the University of Oxford, where he studied higher dimensional geometric shapes that play a role in string theory. In his free time, he likes to generate pseudorandom notes on a guitar or piano (he refers to it as “improvising”) and play volleyball.

ED WISE

AARON DEES

Aaron has completed both an MSc in Mathematics and an MSc in High-Performance Computing, with speciality in numerical methods and novel computing technologies. He enjoys exploring the overlapping regions in research domains and previously spent 2 years at a Supercomputing facility in Ireland, working with researchers to find ways novel technologies could aid and improve their science. In his spare time he'll likely be found in or around the ocean.

HAMZA ALAWIYE

Hamza completed his DPhil in applied mathematics at the University of Oxford before converting to machine learning research for a Heilbronn Fellowship at the University of Bristol. He attempts in vain to maintain an unhealthily large number of hobbies but is most at home in the kitchen, on an ultimate [frisbee] pitch or at a bike workshop stand.
